IN REMEMBRANCE OF Mike Eggers
CARE is sad to announce the passing of former CARE President Mike Eggers
on February 16th .
Mike was an active member of the community and served as a San Juan
Capistrano Planning Commissioner as well as the Mayor of Dana Point..
Eggers, who would have been 61 in March, is survived by his wife, Kathi,
and his children and grandchildren.
Mike was a campaign consultant who worked in governmental affairs and at
one time worked for then-Congressman Ron Packard in South Orange County.
He attended the CARE car show on February 6th.
Former CARE President, Erin Kutnick described him aptly; “Mike had a
quick wit and a real ability to see right through the nonsense. “He was
always able to see the humor in a situation and make you laugh. But even
more, he cared about his community, giving willingly of his time and
talents whether it be on the Planning Commission, CARE, the press or any
of the many other things he was involved in. He was a good friend and
will be sorely missed by those who knew him and by those who benefitted
from what he did so well.”
Former CARE President and current Board Member, Phil Schwartze, another
said he got to know Eggers during the push for Dana Point incorporation.
“He was a brilliant strategist and had the city's interest at heart.”
“Mike loved Kathi, his children and golf. He had a cutting sense of
humor and enjoyed life,” Schwartze said. “He worked on Saturday at the
CAR show for CARE and looked great and we joked a lot. I will greatly
miss Mike. He was a calm harbor in the storm of life.”
