These pets need your help to find
new homes:
Garfie appeared as the November Featured Pet on CARE's web site home page. November is Adopt A Senior Pet month. Primarily a mix of Husky and probably Shepherd, this 55 pound boy loves to go for car rides and walks. His Husky strength, combined with his excitement of walking puts a slight pull on the leash while walking him. At 8 years of age, Garfie still wants to please and with a little bit of training time from his new family, he should be able to increase his training. When taking these images of Garfie, I found him pleasant and easy to be around. He has a thick, short, gold on lemon coat that leads to a cute, likeable face. Could you foster Garfie?

Kona - Sweeter than a chocolate covered
macadamia nut. Kona was CARE's other featured Adopt a Senior Pet. At
seven to eight years of age, this classic tabby loves people. Kona is
not however as fond of other cats. When visiting her in her temporary
deluxe cat suite at the Ortega Animal Care Clinic, I found her
approachable and affectionate. The first thing you notice is her
beautiful classic tabby look with reddish tints. Her dark green eyes
call you in for a closer look. As her neck lowers and her head rises to
the touch of your open hand, you feel the soft luxuriousness of her
thick short fur. Please spread the word about this sweet available
girl. An Adoption Day Volunteer - |

Recent CARE Pet Adoption Success Stories:
Momma Molly and her "Sick Puppies" How they got to the shelter is still a mystery. CARE received a call from the Orange County Animal Care Center shelter that a San Juan Capistrano Cairn terrier mix had arrived at the shelter with puppies that were just days old. The puppies were having difficulties and their survival was in question. Working together as partners, CARE and the shelter felt that it was in the best interest of the puppies to have one of CARE's members who is also a foster volunteer for the shelter foster these days old dogs. The goal was simple: increase their chance for survival. In the foster home, the puppies could be monitored and tended 24 hours a day by the foster family. The puppies danger was grave enough that one did not survive the next hour until the exchange to the foster family could take place. Although the OCACC shelter increases the days retained for many dogs well beyond the minimum, the shelter holds pets for a minimum of 5 days to provide the owner a chance to find them. Momma Molly had neither tags nor a microchip. The shelter kept images of Molly to show to anyone looking for her. The foster family nursed the remaining three puppies and momma to strength. No one came to the shelter to claim this little momma. The foster family continued with Molly, Matilda, Milton and Mikey, as the transfer from shelter foster to CARE foster status occurred. The puppies continued to thrive in their foster home and attended a Petsmart Adoption Day event coinciding with Pet Pix with Santa. Each of the three puppies and momma Molly found their homes in late December.
Hopefully, we will get to see each of them again at
the CARe SHOW. |
Molly appears with the puppies below after being in
their foster home for about three weeks. The puppies appear to be
thriving and Molly is doing well.

Help CARE use this video to promote
adoption for Liz Liz - Help
Liz Find Her home Liz - Liz originally came to CARE from the Orange County shelter. Her pelvis and legs had been seriously injured. Liz became a left rear leg amputee, however her right rear became stabilized. Liz's foster family asked a friend to produce a 45 second video that you can share with others to show how this shy girl warms up in a home. Liz needs a quiet home. A small one story home would work best for her. She needs a small family that will seek her out and include her in their quiet home activities. View Liz's video to see how this technology helps show her as a normal cat, who can add enjoyment to her new family. Share her video with friends to help Liz find a new home. |

CARE Reaches New Annual Adoption Number CARE will set a new mark by helping more than 185 cats and dogs in 2007. Estimates of CARE's direct cost to acquire, feed, alter, vaccinate, microchip, adopt, medicate, provide Veterinarian care and important surgeries are forecasted to exceed $44,000.00. Partnerships with Petsmart Charities in store cattery, Ortega Animal Care Clinic combined with grants for supplies from groups like PetsMart, PetCo and Purina Pro Plan have significantly reduced the average cost per pet (especially the cost per cat) in the programs, while providing much needed public exposure for the adoptable pets. Few people realize that CARE absorbs the Orange County Animal Care Center pet adoption fees ($85 to $200), just as a member of the public does when adopting from OCACC. CARE works as a partner with OCACC to help the adoptable cats and dogs of San Juan Capistrano find homes. |
