Dogs in the Garden

Our canine friends bring us much joy as we go for walks, play days at the dog park and greet us as we arrive home. Their antics and habits bring smiles to our faces and warm our hearts.

Sometimes it's hard to be a dog when you are surrounded by a well manicured garden. The links on the right will take you to selected articles that may help keep your dog more comfortable in the garden, while also helping keep your canine best friend and the garden safe.

Be sure to check out the list of toxic plants in the links to the right.  Many of these are common in Southern California Gardens. They include lilies azaleas, oleanders and more. How many of these pet toxic plants are in your garden?

ASPCA List of Plants Toxic to Dogs and Cats

Mac
The featured "Dog in the Garden" at the top of each page is Mac. Orange County Animal Control found Mac on Ortega Highway trying, yet failing to survive on his own. Mac had already lost half of his weight, injured his legs, damaged all four paws and was terrified  of cars and noises. In 2001, Mac become one of CARE's first rescue dogs. Now fully filled out and healthy, Mac shares a home and garden with Mike and Pam. 

Through the generous gifts of Supporters, Members and Volunteers, CARE has since been able to help hundreds of dogs and cats.  Thank you for helping the cats and dogs.
